During your first session, I will spend time getting to know you better and understand what brings you to counselling. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process and discuss your goals and expectations.
Open and honest communication between the counsellor and the client is essential for building trust and rapport. It creates a safe space where you as the client feels heard, respected, and understood, encouraging you to share openly without judgement. This will strengthen the therapeutic relationship and supports effective, meaningful progress.
A counselling session typically lasts for 60-minutes, although session length may vary depending on your specific needs and preferences.
Longer session times can be arranged if needed, and brief individual sessions up to 30-minutes are available for current clients who may require a shorter sessions to touch base on a more regular basis.
This is a common question and the short answer is that registered counsellors are not included on a MHCP therefore ineligible to offer a Medicare rebate as they are not yet registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At this stage only MH Social Workers, Psychologists and Psychiatrists can offer a Medicare rebate.
Despite this current regulation, most counsellors will accept a referral from a general practitioner (GP) and already charge a lower standard fee then other MH providers. The full fee charged is often comparable to the gap fee charged by other providers, therefore the out of pocket costs can work out to be approximately the same for the client.
