Stress, anxiety, depression and panic attacks create some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience. Through counselling and individualised care and planning, the aim is to provide you with the tools you need to help manage these often-debilitating conditions. Learning to understand these uncomfortable emotional responses can help you to recover perspective, motivation, balance, and help you to rediscover personal fulfilment and joy.
Many individuals can experience physical symptoms associated with painful and traumatic events. Anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, and hopelessness are just a few of the emotions that can persist after traumatic events. These trauma related symptoms and emotions can be managed or overcome with guidance, support and trauma informed approach. It is important to understand our emotions, upack feelings of guilt and shame, allow for the grieving process, and create a safe space for understanding, acceptance, self awareness and healing.
Healthy relationships are essential for our health, happiness and overall wellbeing. These relationships need to be nurtured, be understanding, compassionate, trusting and supportive to be able to thrive. Over time a dysfunctional relationship can lead to mental, emotional, and physical distress or trauma. It can feel quite challenging to transform a dysfunctional relationship into a nurturing one, and achieving this takes patience, time and work on both sides.
Relationships are constantly changing and evolving which can increase discomfort and problems with communications as values and life circumstances change. I can offer a relationship an opportunity and the tools required for change. The aim is for these relationships to thrive by encouraging positive communication styles, reconnection, understanding, acceptance, empathy and mutual respect. My services include relationship, family and parenting support.
Women are often juggling a combination of home life, family, social and work commitments. Most women are good at multitasking and communication however their self-care is often put behind the needs of others, including family, friends and other commitments. Women's health can be complex and misunderstood; often women do not feel heard when expressing their stress and health concerns. If these concerns are not met with understanding, empathy and support, it can negatively impact on a woman's health and wellbeing.
I strive to empower women to live their best life. My women's health services include, mental health support, health promotion and support for those struggling with chronic pain, pelvic pain, including endometriosis and PCOS, anxiety, depression, pre and postnatal support, maternal stress, relationship concerns, trauma and change of life.
Men's mental health and wellbeing is quite often minimised, misunderstood or mismanaged. Men often face many difficult life challenges such as ongoing work-life imbalance, stress and unresolved trauma, which can significantly impact on their ability to cope and can reduce resilience over time. Men often choose to internalise their stress, which can lead to a breakdown of communication and reduce their ability to cope over time.
Those factors can lead to poor decision making, substance abuse, behavioural addictions, and an inability to relate, communicate or socialise with friends and family. At that point relationship breakdown and increased mental and physical health problems occur. Early intervention and prevention of poor mental health in men can also help reduce the risk of chronic disease and the increased risk of addiction or suicide that can often be prevented.
The internal changes that occur naturally as a child moves into adolescence are challenging enough, without the addition of the modern-day external factors that can influence them in our fast-paced ever-changing world. There are many internal and external factors that can negatively influence how our children think, grow and develop. This can potentially contribute to mental ill-health if not identified and managed, which can make adolescence and their transition into adulthood feel very confronting.
It is my role as a youth mental health counsellor to help your child identify and understand their deeper thoughts, feelings and beliefs. I can help support emotional regulation, create understanding and explore how to navigate away from negative behaviours and challenging thoughts. The goal is to increase self-awareness, positivity, develop healthy communication styles and relationships, to build resilience and create a sense of wellbeing.
Our physical health is directly impacted by our mental, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing. Health and wellbeing can be achieved when a client has a good understanding of how these important factors interact with each other.
Health support arms a client with the understanding, support and tools that can empower them to help overcome barriers they may face when confronted by lifestyle change. This strategy can give the client an advantage that may allow them to potentially prevent or better manage ill-health or chronic disease.
Our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health are each as important as the other. If one is out of balance, then they all will be. Balance and wellbeing can only be found when all the pieces of the puzzle that is our life, are put together in a way that reflects the persons basic needs and core values.
It is important when seeking this balance, to allow yourself some space and time to take the opportunity to appreciate the little things in life that give you joy and to learn to breathe again. Taking some time out for some simple daily mindfulness practice can be key in helping you regain balance, clarity and vitality.
